Gwyneth on CMAs

RIDE ’EM, GOWGIRL: If you’ve been watching ABC in recent days, you’ve undoubtedly noticed that the promos for tonight’s CMA Awards herald “the country singing debut of Gwyneth Paltrow.” Now, that may sound like an oxymoron, but don’t underestimate Chris Martin’s better half. The tie-in with the CMAs is Paltrow’s starring role as a country singer in writer-director Shana Feste’s upcoming film Country Strong, for which she sings the title song. But that isn't the first time she’s been called upon to sing like a pro. Most notably, Paltrow was paired with Huey Lewis in Duets, a 2000 karaoke movie directed by her late father, Bruce Paltrow, occasioning a duet with Babyface covering the Temptations’ “Just My Imagination,” and she sang the heck out of it. Six years later, she played a Peggy Lee-ish lounge singer in the other Truman Capote biopic, Infamous. Tonight’s performance will be followed next week by an appearance on Glee in which she guest stars as a substitute teacher, giving her the opportunity to deliver renditions of "Singing in the Rain," Rihanna's "Umbrella" and the clean version of Cee Lo’s “Fuck You.” More on Country Strong in the L.A. Times. (11/10a)
