Bono Remembers the Big Man

BONO REMEMBERS THE BIG MAN: Count on U2’s Bono to deliver his own eulogy to E-Street sax player Clarence Clemons during Saturday night’s show at Angel Stadium in Anaheim. He dedicated the last number, “Moment of Surrender," to the late Springsteen cohort's memory: “I want you to think about a beautiful, symphonic sound that came out of one man's saxophone. I want you to think about Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. I want you to think of Clarence Clemons. This man just carried music, and music carried him until this day." He then spoke the final verse of “Jungleland,” which featured arguably Clemons’ most iconic sax solo, interspersing it with the end of “Surrender”: “They reach for their moment/And try to make an honest stand/But they end up wounded/Not even dead/Tonight in Jungleland.” And that was it, as the crowd quietly filed out.
