Martin Kierszenbaum in LAT

TODAY’S READING ASSIGNMENT: Maybe it’s just us, but it seems like the music and music biz coverage in the L.A. Times has gotten a lot sharper lately. Here’s a great example: freelancer Melinda Newman’s profile of Martin Kierszenbaum, whose Interscope imprint Cherrytree Records boasts a wildly varied roster including Far East Movement, LMFAO, Ellie Goulding, Robyn, La Roux and the label's very first signing, Feist. As Newman points out, Kierszenbaum's talent is spotting acts that are a bit ahead of the musical curve but still appeal to current mainstream taste. "I don't sign things of the moment,” says the La Jolla native, “I sign things of the moment to come." And later, "I never let market conditions dictate what I sign. I sign quality and then figure out a way to get the market to see it and get into it." (6/29a)
