MARK OUR WORDS: We had Mark Shimmel going to Epic way back in November, and this morning L.A. Reid finally made it official, announcing his former colleague’s hiring as label COO. “In his new role,” Reid stated, “Mark will concentrate his efforts on the overall operations of Epic Records utilizing his diversified leadership perspectives, knowledge and expertise in music brand partnerships; strong disciplines in both marketing and operations; as well as his background in artist relations. Mark, who is based in New York, will once again report to me, as he previously did at both Arista and LaFace Records. Mark is an unparalleled executive and an exceptional leader with a wealth of experience in the music and entertainment space. I am confident that the future of Epic Records is in great hands.” Said Shimmel, “L.A. Reid is the most talented and creative music executive of the modern era. To build a new organization supporting his creative process is the opportunity of a lifetime. I look forward to our entire organization reaching its greatest successes.” For the past seven years, Shimmel was the Head of Music for Turner Entertainment Networks, overseeing TNT, TBS, CNN, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. He played a key role in the induction of the first-ever, hip-hop exhibit into the Smithsonian Institute and spent several years overseeing talent for the Kennedy Center Honors. (1/18a)
