Call Me Maybe vs. Hunky Santa

A LAWSUIT? WHY, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE: So, the first time you heard Carly Rae Jepsen's mega-smash "Call Me Maybe," did you find yourself thinking, gosh, these lyrics totally remind me of "Hunky Santa"? You didn't? You don't even know what "Hunky Santa" is? Well, you're in for a treat. A former Miss Ukraine, who goes by nom de pop Aza, recorded the little-heard yuletide number and now (according to an L.A. Times blog) claims that "Call Me Maybe" ripped it off. Or, more specifically, as alleged in a suit filed in L.A. by attorney Barry K. Rothman against Jepsen and manager Scooter Braun, that "Maybe" sampled lyrics from the song "without approval or consent." We're not really sure what on earth the plaintiffs are talking about, but you can peep the video for "Hunky Santa" yourself:

The clip has enjoyed some 72,000 views on YouTube, the lion's share since the lawsuit was announced. Not that Aza's team are just interested in publicity or anything. Oh, and online visitors have bestowed 50 likes and 894 dislikes at the time of this writing. Somebody's getting a lump of coal from Hunky Santa. (11.8p)
