Bruno Super Bowl

IT'S OFFICIAL: Bruno Mars will perform at Super Bowl XLVIII's halftime show, the NFL announced on Sunday (9/8); Mars appeared at a Times Square announcement event with a retinue of sportscasters that included FOX NFL Sunday hosts Terry Bradshaw and Curt Menefee. The Pepsi-sponsored halftime mini-concert (and the football game that rides its coattails) will air on 2/2/14 on FOX. Word that Mars would perform in the spot previously occupied by The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Prince, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Beyonce and, of course, Carol Channing (among other superstars) was leaked by various sources the day before the League made it official. A sizzle reel of Mars, beginning with a clip of his memorable Elvis act in 1992's Honeymoon in Vegas and mapping his rise to fame, accompanied the release. (9/9a)
