Bowie/Mercury Prize

GLAM KID MAKES GOOD: Columbia's David Bowie and Mercury/IDJ's Jake Bugg are among the nominees for this year's Mercury Prize, heralding the British or Irish album of the year. The 66-year-old Bowie, whose The Next Day came out earlier this year, is reportedly the oldest person nominated for the prestigious award, which is sponsored by Barclaycard. Other nominees include U.K. chart kings Arctic Monkeys as well as Laura Mvula, Savages, Foals, Laura Marling, Rudimental, Disclosure, Jon Hopkins, James Blake and Villagers. In addition to a handsome trophy, the winner will receive a steak-and-kidney pie and a commemorative teabag. (9/12p)
