ONES TO WATCH: The iHeartRadio app has entered the “wearables” market as part of the Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch. The Clear Channel streaming-radio giant’s pact with the new gizmo, announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona over the weekend, will enable users to access iHeart’s 1,500+ radio stations, create their own streaming stations, rate songs and more—directly from their wrists. The Gear line will not run on Google’s Android platform (as Galaxy phones and tablets do) but on Samsung’s proprietary Tizen operating system. iHeart’s President of Digital Brian Lakamp expressed admiration for the Gear 2’s “sleek design and interface,” adding it was likely to be “popular among our listeners” before his smart watch lit up with Tom Poleman’s lunch order. In a related story, reports that editors will be able to update this website from a so-called “underwear app” could not be confirmed at press time. (2/24a)
