DOING THE ROBOT: In the wake of the recent earthquake, it was revealed that the Los Angeles Times has been using "robo-journalism" (i.e. an algorithm designed to generate news stories). In the spirit of journalistic integrity, a thing we've heard of but never really attempted before, we can now confide that we, too, have been depending on cyber-technology to create content for our site and magazine. Presenting the HITS Editron 500, which repurposes press releases, "analyzes" sales data and captions photos of promo execs using a database of over 11 jokes, powered by an algorithm based on billing.
