Sherwood to Disney TV co-chair

WELCOME TO SHERWOOD: Disney has dubbed ABC News prexy Ben Sherwood its new co-chairman of Disney Media Networks and president of the Disney/ABC Television Group, the L.A. Times reports. Sherwood, who will succeed Anne Sweeney in the role next February, will oversee broadcast and local stations and cable holdings such as the Disney Channel and ABC Family (the Disney-owned ESPN group, however, will remain the purview of the other TV co-chair, John Skipper). Sherwood, who has a background as a journalist and novelist, stepped in as ABC News prez in 2010, and is credited with turning around both Good Morning America and World News Tonight; the unit has earned eight Emmys and three Peabodys during his tenure. His successor at ABC News has not yet been announced. (3/25a)
