NEW YORK FEELS THE CALIFORNIA LOVE: Holler If Ya Hear Me, the musical inspired by the legacy of the late Tupac Shakur, is having its Broadway opening at the Palace Theatre tonight (6/16). In celebration of what would've been his 43rd birthday, Madonna, mother Afeni Shakur and Jeff Jampol, who oversee's Tupac's estate, we're in attendance for a preview peformance. The show, a non-biographical, fictional story about a struggling community that searches for hope through the power of togetherness, contains 21 songs and poems written by the influential rapper. It's directed by Kenny Leon, August Wilson's protégé,who just received a Tony for A Raisin in the Sun. Said our old pal Jeff Jampol, ''It's our responsibility, and our privilege, to ensure that new generations of fans experience the power of Tupac's music, his ideas and his storytelling.'' (6/19a)
