COUNTRY IN THE CITY: KCRW is going country. The PoMo powerhouse will put on a trio of free country concerts this summer, dubbed Country in the City and headlined by Greg Allman (7/19), Shelby Lynne (7/26) and Wynonna [Judd] & the Big Noise (8/2). The respective openers are the critically acclaimed Sturgill Simpson (whose new album bears the wicked-clever title Metamodern Sounds in Country & Western), buzzing L.A. combo Jamestown Revival and Nikki Lane (whose just-released New West album was produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach). Advance registration at KCRW.com is required for every show, which will be held at Century Park in Century City. So it looks like this country trend is catching on. We’ll be jumping on the bandwagon next week with HITS’ first-ever Nashville Spotlight Issue. Yee-haw. (6/27a)
THE COUNT: ALL THE DESERT'S A STAGE
The dust settles on the Indio Polo Grounds. (4/22a)
