July workout tracks

TOP 10 WORKOUT TRACKS FOR JULY: Just when you thought you were gonna OD on EDM pop—and last month’s Top 10 was loaded with it—the calorie-burning voters on RunHundred.com have gone in another direction entirely. There’s the ubiquitous “Rude,” of course, which may very well usher in a Men at Work renaissance, and “Am I Wrong,” an obvious segue to “Everything She Does Is Magic.” tUnE-yArDs’ “Water Fountain,” the hippest and most surprising pick, would lead nicely into Paul Simon’s “Graceland” or something from Fela Kuti. Dang, there’s even a pair of country records, while Katy, Gaga and Shakira represent for divadom. This batch looks more like Top 40 than the actual Top 40. And is it the heat or the humidity that has the BPMs, which usually hover around 130, to slow way down?

Nico & Vinz - “Am I Wrong” – 121 BPM
Katy Perry - “Birthday” – 124 BPM
Charli XCX - “Boom Clap” – 93 BPM
Jarrod Niemann & Pitbull - “Drink to That All Night (Remix)” – 120 BPM
Magic - “Rude” – 72 BPM
Lady Gaga - “G.U.Y.” – 100 BPM
Shakira - “The One Thing” – 84 BPM
tUnE-yArDs - “Water Fountain” – 111 BPM
Far East Movement & Riff Raff - “The Illest (Rell the Soundbender Remix)” – 80 BPM
Lady Antebellum - “Bartender” – 101 BPM

Following the nostalgic thread above, and in honor of the superb Jimmy Page remasters, here are our picks for the Top 5 Led Zeppelin spinning tracks: 1) “Ramble On” (duh), 2) “Our Time Is Gonna Come” (a killer climb), 3) “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You,” 4) “Friends,” (fast jog) and 5) “Good Times Bad Times.” Road-tested and highly recommended. You’ll be suckin’ wind, guaranteed. (7/23a)
