YOUR TRIUMPHANT SUPERHEROES WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: It was all Turtles and Guardians, as last week’s top dogs (by a light year) obliterated this weekend’s three challengers. Looking particularly pathetic were Sly and Ahnold in Expendables 3, their latest desperate attempt to muscle their way back to relevance. No big shock there. The Givers, a young-adult novel shepherded to the screen by Jeff Bridges and Scooter Braun, opened with a relatively disappointing $12.8m, but Box Office Mojo predicts the film will do $30-40m domestically, at least covering its $25m budget.

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Paramount) – $28.4m (-56.7%), 3,980/$7,136 avg. (week 2)
2. Guardians of the Galaxy (Disney) – $24.7m (-41.3%), 3,697/$6,691 avg. (week 3)
3. Let's Be Cops (Fox) – $17.7m, 3,094/$5,721 avg. (debut)
4. The Expendables 3 (Lionsgate) – $16.2m, 3,221/$5,029 avg. (debut)
5. The Giver (Weinstein) – $12.8m, 3,003/$4,249 avg. (debut)

The big story in the limited-release sector continues to be Richard Linklater’s remarkable coming-of-age saga Boyhood (IFC), which entered the Top 10, its $2.15m gross (with a $2,789 average) representing an 8.9% gain as the film added another 265 screens to bring its total to 771 in week six.
