The real story is at #2, where Sony Legacy’s deluxe 25th anniversary reissue of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, will rack up between 110-120k, not bad for an album first released in 1983.
Grammy wins helped fuel a Top 10 return for Universal Republic’s Amy Winehouse, as the five-time victor reaps the spoils of her riveting satellite performance to go in at #3, with 110-120k putting her Back to Black back on the leader board.
The other big winner, Verve’s Album of the Year Herbie Hancock tribute to Joni Mitchell, River: The Joni Letters, bows on the chart with between 40-45k, up from around 5k the previous week, good enough for the Top 10, with any stock problems, if they ever indeed existed, more than solved.
Other Top 10 finishers include J’s Alicia Keys (100-105k), Hip-O/UMe’s 2008 Grammy Nominees (70-75k), Big Machine’s Taylor Swift (50-55k), Disney’s Hannah Montana 2 (45-50k), Rhino’s Juno soundtrack (40-45k), Geffen’s Mary J. Blige (40-45k) and Columbia’s John Legend (40-45k).
