ONE-DAY SALES: HOME-MAKERS COOK UP SECOND #1 WEEK

Peep this: The Dixie Chicks' intimate new bluegrass album, Home, will surprise no one by remaining #1 for a second week on the HITS Top 50 Albums chart, according to early reports from national accounts.

Those early reports indicate that the Chicks’ first release on Open Wide/Monument/Columbia will see the usual, natural drop for a big title but will probably drop by less than 50% of its 777k debut, which will still put it in the 400k range. Of course, the trend over the next couple of days will tell the tale—and as we all know, anything can happen (and often does).

Meanwhile, the two biggest debuts headed for next week’s chart are Jive’s Aaron Carter, whose Another Earthquake appears headed for the 50-60k zone, and Columbia’s Ozzfest 2002 compilation, which should come in at around 40k. It’s important to note, however, that the wholesome-music-loving racks could propel the Aaron Carter higher as the week progresses, while the legion satanic-music-worshipping metalheads out there who haven’t yet put down their bongs long enough to go out and buy the Ozzfest title could do so by week’s end, thus increasing its number.

Like we said, anything can happen, but we won’t know what will happen until it does. Look, we’re not future-seeing magic trolls or anything—though we can see the resemblance.
