MAGIX READY TO CLEAN UP

New Audio Cleaning Lab Software Means We Can Finally Enjoy Our New Christy Minstrels Albums Again
Music software playas Magix are at it again—and after unleashing a slew of goodies for creating new music, they say they can help make your old music sound better, too.

The company’s Audio Cleaning Lab is designed to let users spiff up analog recordings like vinyl albums and cassettes as well as CDs and even digital files. Without the use of a preamp, music collectors can load material into the program and enhance it with re-mastering tools, equalization, static- and hiss-reduction and an array of effects; the restored material can then be burned onto a CD.

All of these operations can be accomplished simply, the company insists, due to "guidance wizards" in the program that guide users step by step. We have an inkling of what this is because we saw a guidance wizard on our dorm-room wall once after eating too many Vivarin.

"Cleaning Lab technology has the power to instantly revitalize old music collections," declared Magix CEO Ken Alterwitz when we told him we were from a Hamburg newspaper. "From record collectors and music enthusiasts to professional DJs, anyone now has an alternative to tossing out their worn music library and upgrading it to today’s digital standards."

The application will be especially useful for Ken, who will use it to restore his huge collection of tapes of himself talking.

Audio Cleaning Lab’s MSRP is $50; it’s available at Best Buy, Virgin Megastores, Circuit City, CompUSA, Fry’s and other retailers.
