ISLAND GOES THE WONG WAY
Reporting to David Massey
Eric Wong has been dubbed EVP/GM of Island Records, label head David Massey has announced.
The New York-based Wong was named EVP, Marketing at the former Island Def Jam in 2011; in his new post he’ll oversee all Island operations and report directly to Massey.
"Eric’s well-grounded successes in marketing and artist management made him the perfect choice for this position at the new Island Records," Massey proclaimed, adding that Wong’s "imagination, creativity and passion, as well as his warmth, inspires our artists and staff. He’s also proved highly adept at finding Chris Blackwell’s old caches of weed."
The Brooklyn-bred Wong first joined IDJ in 1999; he departed in 2006 to work at Bad Boy Entertainment and Atlantic before returning to IDJ in 2011.
Since then he’s overseen marketing, digital, creative, artist development, video promotion and video production, working with acts including Rihanna, Kanye West, Avicii, Bon Jovi, Iggy Azalea and Fall Out Boy.
He earned a WEA internship as a teen and served as a college rep at EMI while attending NYU, all the while dreaming he’d one day see his face on a sleazy trade-rag website like this one.
