BMLG’s Florida Georgia Line has earned two Diamond Single Awards, for “Cruise” and “Meant to Be” f/Bebe Rehxa.
The RIAA’s Mitch Glazier, Michele Ballantyne and Jackie Jones acknowledged the certifications on 11/19 during a virtual celebration hosted by the RIAA and BMLG. Among the luminaries in attendance were mega-mogul and management icon Irving Azoff, Full Stop's Jeffrey Azoff, label boss Scott Borchetta and Spotify's John Marks. Due to lax security, Todd Hensley was also on the call.
Only 43 singles in RIAA history have been certified diamond, yet FGL’s “Meant to Be” f/Bebe Rexha is one of six in the past four years.
“Thank you, guys, for the recognition. This ride has been a dream come true,” said FGL’s Brian Kelley. “It’s pretty crazy hearing the numbers. Thank y’all for taking the time and celebrating us, but know that celebrating us is celebrating y’all ‘cause it is all of us."
“It's surreal, but it's nice to take a second to let that sink in and honestly, we’re so thankful,” added FGL’s Tyler Hubbard. “Thank y’all for being a part of this team. We’re humbled by it. And we’re really extremely motivated. We’re all in a great headspace, and we’re feeling really creative, and all this does is inspire us even more.”
The duo celebrated an additional seven RIAA certs during the virtual festivities:
- gold for "Can’t Say I Ain’t Country," "Blessings" and their 17th career #1, “I Love My Country"
- 2x platinum for “Simple” and “Talk You Out of It"
- 6x platinum for “H.O.L.Y." and “This Is How We Roll"
The pair is currently up for the fan-voted American Music Award for Favorite Duo or Group–Country—the show airs on 11/22—and will kick off the holidays with a debut performance of “Lit This Year” on ABC’s CMA Country Christmas, scheduled for 11/30.
While Borchetta raised a glass to FGL's certification accomplishments, the other attendees wished Hensley could be muted more often.
