RIAA CERTIFIES CARRIE AS #1
COUNTRY ARTIST OF 21ST CENTURY
10/25/16

Prior to taking a ride on the Zamboni at Madison Square Garden are, from left, Kevin Kelleher, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Sony Music Entertainment; Randy Goodman, Chairman and CEO, Sony Music Nashville; Carrie Underwood; Sony Music Entertainment CEO Doug Morris, and Julie Swidler, Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and General Counsel.

The RIAA has made math Carrie Underwood’s favorite subject. A rash of new RIAA album certifications of Underwood’s 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville catalogue have made her the most-certified country album artist to debut this century.

Underwood’s 2005 debut Some Hearts now stands at 8 million the highest album certification of any country artist to emerge since 2000. Underwood’s 2015 Storyteller has been certified Platinum; Blown Away is now 2x Platinum; Play On is 3x Platinum; and Carnival Ride is 4x Platinum).

Underwood is also the current Top Country Artist on the RIAA’s Digital Single Ranking with 28m download sales, putting her in the Top 5 females across all genres. Sony Music executives broke the news to her on the occasion of her sold-out show at Madison Square Garden.

Currently on tour, Underwood will co-host the 50th Annual CMA Awards from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena with Brad Paisley on 11/2.
