CROSSOVER
I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Labor Day weekend. With the summer officially over and kids back in school, we gear up for the fourth quarter. This means major releases and, hopefully, big sales through the holidays. It’s a chance for the labels to grab some marketshare and for radio to reap the benefits of superstar acts and gear up for their winter/holiday shows… Last week, I spoke in detail about Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and its potential at Rhythm radio. Well, this past week, it was up over 200 spins, and is on its way to charting. Speaking of Republic, Gary Spangler and Davey Dee have a full plate. They’ve got Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” at #12, up over 600 spins, Ariana Grande f/Zedd’s “Break Free” at #15, Drake’s “0-100” at #16, Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” at #19 and Rich Gang f/Young Thug & Rich Homie Quan’s “Lifestyle,” leaping #36-28 and gaining 270 spins. They also have Kiezsa’s “Hideaway,” Enrique Iglesias f/Descemer Beuno, Sean Paul & Gente De Zona’s “Bailando” and Kalin & Myles’ “Love Robbery” just outside the chart… The Def Jam team of Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness owns the #1 record in the land with Jeremih f/YG’s “Don’t Tell ’Em”; it’s almost 2000 spins ahead of the #2 record. They also take Iggy Azalea f/Rita Ora’s “Black Widow” inside the Top 10, with an increase of 375 spins. Jeezy f/Jay Z’s “Seen It All” is inside the Top 50 and grabbing new stations each week. They’re impacting YG f/TeeFlii’s “Do It to Ya” this week, and have Maejor Ali’s “Me And My Team” impacting the following week… Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White move T.I. f/Iggy Azalea’s “No Mediocre” #9-6 this week, with an impressive 570-spin increase. His new single, “All About the Money,” is already Top 15 at Urban, so look for it to make a quick entrance onto the chart. They also take Beyoncé’s “Flawless” #31-26, up 200 spins. Meanwhile, John Legend’s “You and I” is at #40; be sure to check out the newly serviced remix by R3hab. And be on the lookout for a new Calvin Harris f/John Newman track, “Blame,” on Thursday. Also keep an eye out for ZHU’s “Faded,” which is warming up in the mix shows and is at Top 40 as we speak… Sujit Kundu and Epic continue their success, as TeeFlii’s “24 Hours” is at #14, up over 200 spins. Lil Jon’s “Bend Ova” sits at #18, up 255 spins, and Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” leaps #38-24, with a 400-spin increase. Just under the chart is Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot Boy.” They’re ramping up Yo Gotti’s “Errrbody,” which is grabbing new stations each week… John Strazza, Inca and Lori G at RCA have Chris Brown’s “New Flame” at #11, up 320 spins, Usher f/Nicki Minaj’s “She Came to Give It to You” at #25 and Pitbull f/John Ryan’s “Fireball” just outside the chart. They have a new track from Tinashe f/A$AP Rocky, “Pretend,” impacting next week… Lee L’Heureux and Warner Bros. take a step closer to debuting Jason Derulo’s “Trumpets,” which was up 250 spins this week. Also, look for “Tuesday” by new artist I Love Makonnen f/Drake; it’s from Drake’s new label, OVOGlassnote’s Nick P grabbed seven new stations last week, and looks to build a bigger profile this week with Childish Gambino’s “Telegraph Ave.”
