CROSSOVER
A big congrats goes out to Nick P and Michael Starr at Glassnote for officially taking Childish Gambino’s “3005” Top 10 this week! They began working this record in early December, and the record continues to grow and develop. Their next goal is Top 5. It’s great to see success stories with new artists in the format… I had the pleasure of seeing Sam Smith perform at N.Y.C.’s Apollo Theater this past Tuesday. I wasn’t sure how his voice and vocal range would compare to the sound on the radio. Wow. He was even better. He did about 10 songs and closed the show with “Stay With Me.” To much of the audience’s surprise, queen of R&B Mary J Blige came out and did the song with him. Everyone lost their minds. It was one of those moments where you really felt the energy and passion of both performers and got completely lost in the moment. He’s definitely a star, and it’ll be exciting to see just how big he becomes in the coming months… Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness at Def Jam hold on to the #1 spot again this week with Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.” As the record peaks, they have a new track from Azalea, “Black Widow” f/Rita Ora, which they’re impacting this week. This is another up tempo, hook-heavy track that’s sure to continue her success. Def Jam also has YG f/Drake’s “Who Do You Love” moving #9-6 this week, as well as August Alsina’s “Numb” going #27-24. They also have Jeremih f/YG’s “Don’t Tell Em” jumping #37-33, gaining 285 spins. Afrojack f/Wrabel’s “Ten Feet Tall” is starting to make some noise as well, and is a few short weeks away from charting… The crew at Republic have their plan in place to make Ariana Grande f/Iggy Azalea’s “Problem” the next #1 record. It currently sits at #2, up 300 spins. Gary Spangler and Davey Dee also have Lil Wayne f/Drake’s “Believe Me” at #12 and Nicki Minaj’s “Pills N Potions” at #14, up over 350 spins. Adrian Marcel’s “2AM” continues to grow, moving to #19, and Sage the Gemini’s “College Drop” comes in at #31. Keep a close eye on Tiesto’s “Wasted.” It was up 130 spins this week and looks to chart… John Strazza, Inca and Lori G at RCA have Tinashe f/Schoolboy Q’s “2 On” leaping #6-3, up 500 spins. I just heard a remix of Usher’s “Good Kisser,” which features Busta Rhymes, but it’s not approved yet; be on the lookout for it. Meanwhile, they’re climbing the chart with Magic!’s “Rude,” which moves #18-16 and increases over 335 spins. Also, they debut Becky G’s “Shower” and are impacting Bunji Garlin’s “Differentology” this week… Ayelet Schiffman and James White at Columbia have Calvin Harris’ “Summer” Top 15 and gaining momentum. Pharrell Williams’ “Come Get It Bae” moves inside the Top 20, and both Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts” and T.I. f/Iggy Azalea’s “No Mediocre” look to debut this coming week. They’re also ramping up T Mills’ “All I Wanna Do” for Pop, as well as Rhythm… Lee L’Heureux at Warner Bros. has two records among the Most Increased this week. Jason Derulo f/Snoop Dogg’s “Wiggle” climbs #8-4 and gains 480 spins, while Nico & Vinz’s “Am I Wrong” leaps #26-21 with an increase of 390 spins… Epic’s Sujit Kundu has TeeFlii making a quick run up the chart, going #34-27. He also has Yo Gotti f/Rich Homie Quan’s “I Know” at #39. And make sure to listen to Lil Jon f/Tyga’s “Bend Ova.” It‘s starting to really heat up in mix shows… Franco Iemmello and Capitol are starting to get commitments on NeYo f/Jeezy’s “Money Can’t Buy.” It’s already climbing the charts at Urban. And this week, he impacts Love Dollhouse’s “Can I.”
