CROSSOVER
I’d like to start out this week’s column by highlighting a record that has taken a minute to break through. We all know each record is different, but usually we see early signs that give us an indication of that record’s potential. Still, sometimes it takes a little longer. Childish Gambino’s “3005,” released in early December, has only been on the chart for five weeks; this week was the best yet, gaining 330 spins and moving #26-21. New stations are coming on board each week, and it still has plenty of upside and room for growth. Research and sales can be fickle, but radio has really embraced this track, and now it’s on its way… I also want to congratulate Byron Kennedy and Short-e of KSFM for putting on an amazing show this past Sunday. 15k tickets were sold and the show, which went off without a hitch, was the best attended in their long history… RCA remains red-hot with the #1 record in the country this week, Chris Brown’s “Loyal.” John Strazza, Inca and Lori G also have Justin Timberlake’s “Not a Bad Thing” at #12, up nearly 500 spins. Kid Ink f/Chris Brown’s “Main Chick” is at #18 and gaining 390 spins, while Tinashe f/Schoolboy Q’s “2 On” is now Top 20 and gathering an additional 367 spins. Pitbull f/GRL’s “Wild Wild Love” also kicked in this week, moving #37-33, increasing 190 spins. Just yesterday, they impacted Usher’s “Good Kisser,” which is poised to be the Most Added this week… Ayelet Schiffman and James White at Columbia are also having quite a year so far. They maintain four records in the Top 10, including DJ Snake & Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What” at #5, up nearly 900 spins, as well as Beyoncé’s “Partition” at #6 with an increase of 360 spins. Calvin Harris’ “Summer” is at #27 and up 250 spins, and they just impacted Rita Ora’s new track “I Will Never Let You Down.” New tracks from T.I. and Pharrell will be coming soon… The Def Jam crew of Rick Sackhiem, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness are also doing big things. Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” is a monster, moving #9-7 and up 884 spins. Jhene Aiko is also inside the Top 10 and up nearly 250 spins with “The Worst.” They also have YG f/Drake’s “Who Do You Love” in the Top 15, increasing 300 spins, August Alsina’s “Numb” at #31 and Rick Ross f/Lil Wayne’s “Thug Cry” at #41… The biggest record in the country may just be Ariana Grande f/Iggy Azalea’s “Problem.” Gary Spangler and Davey Dee at Republic are off to the races with this one. It debuted at #30 with an increase of 921 spins, and it’s already inside the Top 25 on the building chart. Also from their roster, Young Money f/Drake’s “Trophies” is at #11, Adrian Marcel’s “2AM” is at #24, SoMo’s “Show Off” is at #37 and Sage the Gemini’s “College Drop” is set to debut this week or next. Yesterday, they released a new Lil Wayne f/Drake track, “Believe Me”… Sujit Kundu and Team Epic continue to build Future f/Pharrell’s “Move That Doh.” It’s Top 20 and up over 200 spins this week. They also have Kat Dahlia’s “Crazy” at #28, up triple digits, and Bando Jonez’s “Sex You” at #36. Also make sure to check out TeeFlii’s “24 Hours,” which they’re impacting this coming week.
