Are You “Ready to Start”? A great deal can happen in two weeks and with Arcade Fire, it has been incredible! In the world of charts, “Ready to Start” goes #33-20, the band’s highest chart number to date. In the lovely world of iGEN, it’s already at #12. The CD has now sold a mind-boggling 200k and radio stations that have never played the band before, like KFMA, are taking notice and adding this Alt hit… I have recently been talking about how your audience has been screaming for other records as well. How about the Black Keys? Major kudos to Rob at Warner for closing down the now-smash “Tighten Up” as it goes Top 5 in iGEN. The sales on this have not let up and now it feels like one of the hottest songs in radioland… The other hot one of the moment is Mumford & Sons. You can’t deny what the audience wants and that’s “Little Lion Man”… Our pals Bill and Howard get ready to launch the soon-to-be crossover smash from Thirty Seconds to Mars, “Closer to the Edge,” which feels like a monster hit as early stations like KDGE, Q101, KPNT, WPBZ, WLUM and KTBZ, among others, come in. If you haven’t had the chance to see the band’s video, please do because it’s real strong… What a week for Epitaph’s Tami and everyone at the label with the new Weezer single, “Memories.” The band continues to deliver one great song after another as this one gets ready to take off at Modern… In terms of artist development, one must look at A&M/ Octone and our pal Ben Berkman. In September, all of the hard work will pay off for Paper Tongues and their new single, “Get Higher,” which sounds real good as Alt Nation gets the early jump at radio this week… Not that Sky Daniels needs another challenge after a 10-week run at #1 with Dirty Heads, but we just adore the band’s follow-up, “Stand Tall,” which sounds real good on the radio… Let me be the first one to tell Christine she rocks as Neon Trees inches closer to the top spot at Alternative… I really like the Temper Trap’s follow-up, “Fader,” which feels like there’s real traction as KYSR, KJEE and WLUM, among others, jump right in… I totally dig Florence + the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over” as WARQ, WPBZ and WFNX jump in, the latter with a rather impressive 34x this week. Let’s not forget Dennis’ other smash hit as Anberlin arrives for a lengthy stay in the Top 10… In just a couple of weeks, we get new Kings of Leon music. I can’t wait for that, so please check in with Bill and Jeff to hear this soon-to-be major smash… And let’s not forget the most dangerous man in promo as Warren starts to make noise with Apocalyptica’s “End of Me.”
