BORCHETTA ON UMG, STREAMING AND MORE

In a new interview with Upstart Business Journal, Big Machine Label Group chief Scott Borchetta discusses rumors about selling the company and his deal with UMG (“it just made the most sense to continue the great relationship”), the streaming landscape, the value of music, preserving Music Row and more.

“10 years from now,” Borchetta remarks to interviewer E.J. Boyer, “I guarantee you at least half of those streaming services that exist today will not exist, at least not freestanding,” adding, “When we can scale [the streaming business], it’s going to be really so much better for everyone.” Check it out here.

Borchetta, who’s celebrating the company’s 10-year anniversary, just saw five of his acts—Maddie & Tae, Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, The Band Perry and Rascal Flatts—pick up CMA noms.
