As Kendrick Lamar continues his reign at #1 with To Pimp A Butterfly, it's the talented cast members of two massively popular television shows that are the story this week, as Nashville and Empire flex their respective fan bases to both land Top Ten albums. This is significant considering the music formats couldn't be more different--and demonstrates television's power to sell new, original music; a notable shift from the good ol' Glee days.
Drake, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack are fixtures in the Top Ten while debuts for new albums from Action Bronson (#4) and Earl Sweatshirt (#9) and a reappearence in the top ten by Nashville phenom Sam Hunt (#10) round out the week's best album sellers.
On the singles side, it's all about Rihanna. "Bitch Better Have My Money" rockets to #1, unseating Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk" (which refuses to fall below #2), while Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and The Weeknd round out the top five. The breakout "Shut Up And Dance" by Walk The Moon is also capering in the Top Ten.
